Welcome to the third race of the Determinator Series!

The Determinator is a series of 5 orienteering races taking place over 5 weeks on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. Each race is a short sprint style course where you have to collect controls in order as fast as possible.

You can join in at any time in the first four sessions and still participate in the Final!

We will be using the GOAT Format which means everyone can start at the same time, and following is allowed if you can keep up with the fastest runners. Strategically, you are allowed to skip any one control of your choosing. Prefer not to be in middle of the exciting scramble at the start? Individual starts are still allowed within 10 minutes either before or after the 7 pm mass start.

When: Wednesday May 27, 2026 - Maps distributed at 645pm. Mass start at 7pm.

Where: UVic Parking Lot 10 (off Gordon Head Road)

Parking: Pay parking in Lot 10 costs $2.50 per hour or $5.00 per evening (5:00-11:59 pm). Limited free parking along Gordon Head Road.

Bus: The start is 1 km (<15 min) from the UVic Bus Loop via Ring Road, or from downtown take bus 14 to Cedar Hill X Rd at Gordon Head.

Courses: There will be two courses offered:
  • Determinator Course - 3 km intended for those with some experience - Classic Goat Format - Skip any one control of your choosing!
  • Novice - Easy Course - 1.5 km intended for those brand new to orienteering.
Cost: $15 for adults, $5 for juniors (under 19)

What to Bring: Wear light clothes suitable for running. Any decent running shoes or trail runners. No leg covering needed for this event. Compass is optional for urban terrain, though still recommended.

Registration: Register online at https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=42010&lan=1&cartlevel=1

IMPORTANT: Each upcoming Determinator will rank participants based on their performance at the previous events using a handicap system. Results and handicaps will be posted after the first event. This system gives a chance for everyone to compete against each other no matter their experience or speed as the handicap system creates a great equalizer.

See you out there!
