Are you ready to take your next step in orienteering? Consider becoming an O100 Orienteering Official.

This training is available to VICO club members who have been active with the club in the last year. In addition, Teachers and youth group leaders can also benefit from this training to help them organize orienteering training activities for their students or youth. Some basic experience with orienteering is helpful but not essential. We will work with you to build your experience and knowledge of orienteering.

What you will learn:

  • An overview of the long term athlete development (LTAD) program, including matching orienteering activities to different age groups
  • resources and equipment for orienteering
  • how to effectively design an orienteering course
  • how to use tools such as PurplePen to make effective orienteering course maps
  • how to organizing a club level event / orienteering activity
  • how to run a safe and fun orienteering event or training activity

How will the training be presented?

Phase 1 - Online Module to learn the theory components of organizing basic orienteering events
Phase 2 - Zoom Discussion on Course Planning Tips and Tricks along with how create maps
Phase 3 - Practical experience opportunity to organize & run and orienteering activity

This course is theory-based and will be followed up with a practicum phase, which will require the participant to course plan, organize and plan a local club event. Graduates of this course will receive a certification endorsed by the NCCP and Orienteering Canada.

When?

Start your training anytime between November 15th and January 15th. The majority of your training is self-paced. Upon receiving an email, we will provide you access to our online module, and work with your timeline on when to complete the practical phase. When sufficient numbers are available, we will schedule zoom sessions to explain orienteering course design and demonstrate the tools available for map making.

Cost: Free to club members / $40 for non-club members
