Map: Uplands Park

Our annual Hallowe'en themed night orienteering event returns again to Uplands Park! Test out your night navigation skills while at the same time enjoying some Hallowe'en surprises located throughout the park. This annual event has become popular, so this year we will be limiting participation to a maximum of 75 participants. Please register early to avoid disappointment.

Courses will be based on the Score O format (find as many control flags as you can in any order within a set time limit) and will be offered at three levels:

Easy Score O (Max 5-8 controls) - For those new to orienteering and/or those youngsters furthest from the grave, this course features most control flags located safely on trails in lit areas or on prominent features. Access and navigation will be straight forward using the map. Chances of survival are moderate to high. Max time on course 30 minutes.

Intermediate Score O (10-15 controls) - For those who have some experience in orienteering, but may be new to running around in the dark and dodging scary things. Mostly easy controls, but some areas of tricky navigation. Max time on course 60 minutes.

Advanced Score O (15-20 controls) - For those who have attended previous night orienteering events, and ready to visit the most remote spooky corners of the haunted fields of Uplands Park. Courses suited to those with the confidence to navigate well and good fitness to outrun any monsters they may have stirred up in the process. Max time on course 75 minutes.

Special Note: This year we will see the return of our ghostly 'Roving Control' - expected to roam the park at random. Approach it if you dare, which you should really so that you can get the most controls possible!

What to Bring: Warm clothes suitable for running for your life through the dark. A compass to keep your map oriented. And VERY IMPORTANT: A sturdy lantern, torch (ok, maybe not the flaming kind) headlamp or flashlight! It may be responsible for keeping you alive.

Cost/Registration:$5 for Junior participants, $15 for Adults. Your entry will include a SportIdent (SI) chip rental if needed, or you can use your own. Registration, waiver and payment are all done in one location using our Zone4 system. REGISTRATION WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON.

Meeting Location: In the main Cattle Point/Uplands Park parking Lot. Look for a large glowing tent, a safe zone with hot chocolate and candy. Enjoy the pleasures this life has to offer. Punch "Cattle Point" or 3040 Beach Dr into your GPS, or see the map below.

Start Time: Registration desk opens at 6:30 pm to pick up maps. Starts begin at: 7 pm. Courses Close at: 8:30pm. Please return to the Start/Finish area before 8:30pm or we will assume the worst.
