What is Street/Urban Orienteering?
Street or urban orienteering is wonderful training for all abilities of orienteers and also for beginners and family groups. Navigation may be easier that forest orienteering but route planning skills, keen observation and ability to keep yourself "street" oriented and your location on the map are excellent skills that urban orienteering can improve. Besides, it's just a lot of fun as it combines navigation, observation and sometimes a "skill-testing" question.
You will receive a map and also a question sheet. You navigate to a control site and answer a question about that site on the answer sheet to prove your navigation.
The control locations have been placed to include some of Esquimalt's lovely parks and sites. The south end of the map is flat and suitable for families, while the northern controls will include some elevation changes.
