Event Summary and Results

With great weather and an excellent turnout, a record number of 120 orienteers attended our annual Hallowe'en Spook-O event! There were lots of family groups as well as scouts and cadets who came out to enjoy the festivities. Overall, it was a fun evening of night orienteering mixed with a few 'spooky' things to discover in the forest of Uplands Park. The Mini-Monster course had lots of 'little ones' who enjoyed the spirit of Hallowe'en and the reward of chocolate at the end. Sophie Carter had a great run and managed to speed around the course swiftly in under 10 minutes to claim first place. On the Intermediate Course, there was a very close race for first place between Andrew Knowlton and Brett Carter, with a mere 3 seconds separating the two competitors! I wonder what ghosts were after them to make them run so fast!!

A big thank you to Scott for designing the courses, Leigh for printing maps, and Linda and Marie for working the registration and start.

Results are now posted by paid registration entry. Congratulations to all who participated and came back alive. :) Any questions on results can be directed to: victoria.orienteering@shaw.ca

See you next year, when our Hallowe'en classic returns!

Our annual terrifying Halloween themed Spook-O event is back! This year, once again it will take place in the formidable forests of Uplands Park after dusk.

Cursed Courses :
If you are brave enough to participate, we have prepared two courses, both of which unfortunately pass directly through the haunted grounds of Uplands Park.

#1 - Beginner Course - aka "Mini Monsters" - a 1.1 km short course. For those new to orienteering and furthest from the grave, this course features most controls located safely on trails in lit areas or on prominent features. Access and navigation will be straight forward using the map. Chances of survival are moderate to high.

#2 - Intermediate Course - aka "The Running Dead" - a longer, 2.9 km course, directly through the haunted fields. This course is best suited to those who have run an orienteering race before and lived to tell about it. NOTE : The total distance is measured "as the crow flies" - so expect to actually travel much further, or for all eternity.

What to Bring :
Warm clothes suitable for running for your life through the dark. A sturdy lantern, headlamp or flashlight! ****Very important **** It may be responsible for keeping you alive.

Cost/Registration:
$5 for Junior participants, $15 for Adults. Your entry will include a SportIdent (SI) chip rental if needed, or you can use your own. Registration, waiver and payment are all done in one location using our Zone4 system using the following registration link : Uplands Park Spook O 2024 | Zone4.ca PLEASE REGISTER BEFORE 3 PM ON FRIDAY 25 OCTOBER TO GUARANTEE ACCESS TO A MAP.

IMPORTANT: IF YOU REGISTER AFTER 3 PM, PLEASE KINDLY WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE LINE TO APPROACH THE REGISTRATION TABLE AT UPLANDS PARK, AS WE WILL NEED EXTRA TIME TO PROGRAM YOU INTO THE SPORT IDENT SYSTEM.

Meeting Location:
In the main Cattle Point/Uplands Park parking Lot. Look for a large glowing tent, a safe zone with hot chocolate and candy. Enjoy the pleasures this life has to offer. Punch "Cattle Point" or 3040 Beach Dr into your GPS, or see the map below.

Start Time:
Starts: From 7:00pm
Course Closure: 8:30pm. Please return to the Start/Finish area before 8:30pm or we will assume the worst.
