*** MAY 1st 2020 UPDATE ***

This course has been taken down - we will be posting future courses using the MapRunF app which is GPS based and means no chance of vandalism.

*** APRIL 3rd 2020 UPDATE ***

We continue to experience problems with course vandalism. After a week long cat and mouse game in which our control codes continue to be removed, we are going to redesign this course using the GPS based "MapRunF" app. This will mean no QR codes or placing items will be needed and there will be no course to vandalize. It will be strictly virtual and GPS based.

In the meantime you are free to print the map and run the course for fun. Updates will be posted here and on the VICO Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/victoriaorienteering) ASAP

Original Post :

This is an experimental Virtual Orienteering Course you can do solo at any time - with no physical contact of anyone or anything! You just need the free iOrienteering app, and to print the course map from home (or take a photo of the map posted at the start).

The course map is available to download from this page (on the left) and also posted at the START location (the visitor sign at the main Mt Doug Parking lot at the end of Shelbourne St - not the lower beach parking lot)

1. Download and Print the map from home in colour (or take a photo)
2. Download the iOrienteering app on your phone
3. Visit the start point at the Mt. Doug main sign/map in the main parking lot
4. Scan the course QR code using the app (it's also to the left)
5. Scan the START QR code to start the timer!

Collect all 10 controls as fast as you can, then return to Scan the FINISH QR code.

Save your results in the app and compare against your friends!

If this works well we'll use it for Determinators this year in the face of COVID-19!This experimental course will be left up until May 31st.We are also experimenting with an alternative to iOrienteering called MapRunF that uses GPS only instead of scanning QR codes. Please send us feedback if you run the course!
