Event Summary

Despite the steady drizzle this event was really well attended by at least 60+ participants including 11 cadets from local corps. Everyone got to enjoy the amazing fall colours of the campus. India Sheldrake (with her dad Scott) seized first place on C-1. Clair Lloyd, who is just new to orienteering, cruised into first place on C-2 and the Carter family - Magdalena and Brett did extremely well in finishing first on C-3 and C-4 respectively. Overall Results by course are listed below. Check Split Times to see a comparison of times for each leg of the courses. This is a great way to analyze your performance relative to others. Courses have been specifically designed to accommodate junior competitors on C-1 and C-2, but this event is open to all members of the public. This a good event for those new to orienteering, and those who wish to challenge themselves by trying out more advanced courses in a combination of urban and some wilderness terrain. Courses offered will be as follows:

  • Course 1 (Beginner) approx. 2.7 km - all control flags will be on-trail or slightly off-trail on very prominent objects. Easy navigation.
  • Course 2 (Intermediate) approx. 3 km - control flags will be mostly on-trail or a short distance off-trail. More route choice. .
  • Course 3 (Intermediate - Advanced) approx. 3.8 km - more difficult controls or longer legs requiring more complex navigation including compass work. More route choice.
  • Course 4 (Advanced) 4.5 km - more difficult controls or longer legs requiring more complex navigation. Lots of route choice, most physically demanding course.

Course 3 and 4 will take competitors to some off-trail locations. Due to the prevalence of blackberry bushes, ground cover and spiky Holly bushes in some locations, full leg covering is recommended. Don't run in shorts unless you enjoy getting scratched.

Cost: $5 for Junior participants $8 for Adults. This event will include Sport Ident (SI) Timing. SI Sticks will be available for rent for $2.
