EVENT SUMMARY

An awesome turnout for our third Determinator. This course challenged how quickly we can run and still interpret all of the map details that we need. This course was based on a more complicated format than usual in order to make the most of a small area. Control 2 proved to be a challenge for some. It had not be meant to be tricky, but it seemed once in race mode the legs can run faster than our brains and can keep track of things. Inadvertently, this course on concentration may have favoured the slightly slower runner. :)

Results show overall standings based on the handicap calculated from past races. Actual race times have also been included with the top three identified in bold.

Thanks to all who attended. Linda (Course Planner) and Marie (Event Director)

We are excited to bring you this year's installment of the Determinator Series, running five Wednesday evenings in a row starting May 9.

These events are short and fast and increase in difficulty week by week. Each week, we offer a short course and a Determinator course. Prizes are awarded at the end of each race, and we calculate handicaps every week to even the playing field. The final event in Week 5 is a handicap-adjusted staggered start for a race to the finish to become this year's Determinator.

COST: $8 per map plus $2 for Sport Ident rental. All runners must be members of VICO; you can join at the event.

FORMAT: Determinator races use the goat format, a mass start race where controls must be located in sequential order, but you can choose to skip any one control.

Information for this week's event:

WHEN: May 23. Registration between 6:00 to 6:45 pm; mass start at 7:00 pm.

WHERE: HighRock Park - main grass area.

This week will follow a slightly different format. The course will include two parts, with two maps. Part A is a Score O (locate controls in any order) and the Part B is a classic point-to-point format (all controls found in order). The main aim of this course will be concentration as we will be in a small area and there will be lots of controls and people going in different directions. As per usual you can skip one! You can skip either a control from the Part A or Part B map. Talk about having to think on the run! Good luck. See you Wednesday.
