BCOC Day 2: Sprint Event @ Camosun Interurban
October 1st 2017 10:00am - 1:00pm
Organizers: Chris Ling (Event Director), Linda Hildebrandt (Course Planner), Marie Burgess (Course Planner), John Downey (Course Planner), Tobi Gardner (Course Planner)
Thank you everyone who attended this year's BCOCs in Sooke and Saanich. From my perspective as Meet Director it went very well, thanks in most part to the huge efforts put in by all those who assisted before and during the event.
I want to thank the Course Planners John Downey and Linda Hildebrandt who put on fun and challenging events both days.
They, and I, were supported by our Controllers Bruce and Robyn Rennie. I would like to give some special thanks for John and Bruce who managed to deal with and negotiate a compromise to a last minute land owner imposed restriction to the Long Courses - that meant last minute alterations to courses 4, 5, 6 and 7 and wholesale re-planning of course 3.
Thanks to:
- Leigh Bailey for dealing with the pre-event registration and on the day SI management;
- Diana Hocking for the on-the-day registration and information; and
- Claire Rettie for being our Start general.
Others who provided invaluable assistance included (huge apologies if I have missed anyone):
- Gill Bailey – registration and SI
- Tobi Gardner - assistant planner and vetter at Camp Thunderbird
- Joye Morris and Theresa Leask – registration and information
- Richard Lay, Larry Squire and Jessica Woollard - starts
- Angus Forsythe – parking and vetting at Camosun
- Scott Sheldrake – Refreshments
- Marie Burgess – course setting and assistance at Camosun
- Jade Carter – kit transport
- Sandra Hardy and Magdalena Bazalova-Carter for general assistance.
And finally thank you to all those who volunteered on both days for control pick up and helped with little bits and pieces over the weekend.
One
final note - kudos to Kathrin Mueller for heeding the whistle and
stopping to assist Nesta Leduc on the way round the Long course at Camp
Thunderbird.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: BC ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017
Come join us for a two-day orienteering festival hosted in the beautiful garden city of Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Event locations will feature Camp Thunderbird on a newly updated map and the campus grounds of the Camosun College Interurban Campus and adjoining Layritz Park. There will be two key events - a long course and an urban sprint event.
Don't be put off because this is a Championship event - there are courses for all levels. If you don't want to run in your age group (newer orienteers might find it too difficult), register in one of the OPEN classes. It's cheaper too.
