BEACON HILL PARK ORIENTEERING LEVEE 2017

The 2017 Orienteering Levee had a great turnout in the beginner class C with 23 groups heading out in the 4-degree sunshine.

With photo-O, mystery controls, filling stations, punch checking, memory-O, bringing goodies, and the’ night before’, the New Years event is a conceptual challenge for both organizers and participants.

Participants averaged one and a half mystery controls each, relying on good luck, sharp eyes, photo interpretation or park pre-visits. Congratulations to all who navigated the rules, maps, and wayward controls to put in a good run.

Fewer of the regulars, who come out for the WETs and Determinators, were there on New Years day. So, the four competitors in Courses A and B had a 100% chance of a ribbon – and those lottery tickets that come with the ribbons.

And, we’ll have to up-our-game as Seamus Farragher and Ronan Ling – first and second in the Youth category – both were in the overall top third of Course C. They’re only going to get faster and better!

Happy New Year to all! We look forward to seeing you out at events scheduled for 2017…take a look at the website for the dates and locations

PS - We use old fashion hand punches because of the risk of stolen electronic punches and our caution was well placed because we had control flags moved or removed.
