Thanks to everyone who braved the elements today - as it turned out the Orienteering was timed perfectly to avoid the worst of it, and Royal Roads seemed to be more sheltered than some places.
If you GPSd your route today and are willing to share it with the students looking at our ecological impact, could you please send to either me at chris.h.ling@gmail.com, or to the student researchers at erra.consulting.group@gmail.com. Thanks.
PARKING: OLD RUNNING TRACK AT TOP OF DRIVE WAY BY BUS LOOP. FOLLOW ORANGE AND WHITE SIGNS

Brush off your trail shoes for the first classic event of the year.
Details: The event will be a typical B-level competition event with four courses available to suit orienteers of various experience and abilities. Beginner orienteers are always welcome. This a good event both for those new to orienteering, and those who wish to challenge themselves by trying the more advanced courses - although C4 is only recommended for experienced orienteers.
RRU is a fairly easy map, and very suitable for those new or returning to the sport after a long break
Courses offered will be as follows:
- Course 1 (Beginner) approx 1.8 km - all control flags will be on-trail or on very prominent objects in open areas.
- Course 2 (Intermediate) approx 2.8 km - control flags will be on-trail and some off-trail (within 30 m of trail) or on very prominent objects in open areas.
- Course 3.5 (Short Advanced) approx 3.8 km - control flags will be mostly off-trail. More route choice and compass work required.
- Course 4 (Advanced) approx 6.1 km - controls off-trail and in challenging terrain, lots of route choice, most physically demanding course.
Cost: $5 for Junior participants $8 for Adults. This event will include SportIdent Timing. SI Sticks will be available for rent for $2.
Registration: At the parking area. Registration starts at 12.15pm
Starts: From 12.45pm
Course Close: 3.30pm - please return to the Finish BEFORE 3.30pm.
At this event students from Royal Roads are carrying out research examining the ecological impact of our orienteering events. If you have a GPS device that can record your route and/or are willing to share you route choices with the students that would be appreciated.
