Level 100 Officials Certification Course

Time: 0930 - 1530 hrs (note new start time of 0930 hrs)
Have you been in the club for a while and feel like you are ready to learn more about orienteering?
This course is for anyone who would like to advance their skills about the sport of orienteering by learning event organization and course planning. This course may be of special interest to those who would like to participate in the Wednesday Evening Training (WET) series this year. As in previous years, anyone who would like to take part in the WET series will be asked to organize at least one Wednesday evening event in return for being able to participate in the entire series free of cost. This is the perfect opportunity to learn how to put together a great orienteering event and prepare yourself for another fun and exciting WET series due to start May and running into Sept/Oct.
Who can attend:
To be considered for the 100 Level Officials’ course, you must meet the following pre-requisites:
- Participated in at least five club events (C-event or WETs)
- Participated in at least two Canada Cup or B events
- Served as a volunteer at previous club events
What this course covers:
- how to organize an event (equipment, safety, organizing volunteers, website publicity, set-up etc)
- how to design an orienteering course (this will include an intro to orienteering mapping/course planning software)
What you will receive:
Level 100 Orienteering Official Certification from Orienteering Canada
To complete this certification, you will need to complete the following:
- attend the 100 level course
- achieve a score of 80% or better on the 100 level exam
- plan a beginner course and an intermediate course to C event standards
- act as an event director and course planner for at least one C event (includes WETs)
