Comox Valley’s largest orienteering event ever!  Of course that’s not saying much; but considering the thirty years of effort, first by Jack Saprunoff and continued by VicO, it has to be deemed a booming success.

It was also notable for who was there and who was not there.  The no-shows which we had expected to come included groups from France and Vancouver, and a larger representation from the nearby Quadra Cadets and from Washington.

The Washingtonians who did show up, the Spencer Family, brought some great enthusiasm and colour.  Thomas and Fabio, from Switzerland, added some distinct international flavour.  And we had our strongest contingent from Victoria.

The biggest surprise, for Yours Truly, and some of the old-timers, was the appearance of Mary and Peter Smith, in their O suits not donned in 23 years!  They had a very active club in Cowichan in the 1980’s, and made the first maps of Newcastle Island.

I will not try to thank everyone who helped this weekend; but I must say that it would not have happened without Stewart Lamon, Sarah Seads, and Scott Sheldrake.
