This is the third race in the Determinator Series. Not too late to get involved in this fun series. Come on out, even if you have not attended a Determinator before.

The Determinator is a Series of 4 orienteering races taking place over 4 weeks on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. Each race is a short sprint style course where you have to collect controls in order as fast as possible. We will be using the GOAT format which means you are allowed to skip any one control of your choosing, adding an extra element of strategy.

When: Wednesday June 8th 2022 - Pre-register at home. Maps distributed at 650pm. Mass start at 7pm. Participants on the Easy Course can start at their own time close to 7 pm. Finish by 8:30 pm at the latest.

Where: Determinator #3 will take place at Layritz Park. Meet up in the parking lot between the Layritz Ball Fields and the Vancouver Island Technology Park. See map below. Parking after 5:30 pm is free.

Courses:

  • Determinator Course: 16 controls, 3.4 km, some off-trail controls, SKIP one control!
  • Easy Course: 10 controls, 2 km, most controls on trails or prominent features, no SKIPS, find them all
Cost: $15 for adults, $5 for juniors (under 13)

What to Bring: Wear light clothes suitable for running. Any decent running shoes or trail runners. No leg covering needed for this event. Compass is optional for urban terrain, but will be needed for events in forest areas.

Registration Details: Register prior to the event with our new Zone4 registration system using the following link: 2022 Determinator #3 Camosun Layritz | Zone4 Online Registration. Register, pay and sign waivers all in one shot. Show up and just race!

IMPORTANT Info about the Handicap System: Each upcoming Determinator will rank participants based on their performance at the previous events using a handicap system. Results and handicaps will be posted after the first event. This system gives a chance for everyone to compete against each other no matter their experience or speed as the handicap system creates a great equalizer.

This will be the last race that you will be able to get your handicap that will help you for the Final Race. Start times for the FINAL race will be determined based on your final handicap. The better your handicap the earlier you get to start!

Come out and have fun! See you out there!
