ADVANCED ORIENTEERING SKILLS TRAINING SESSION

THIS SESSION IS NOW FULL!

Details:

Interested in learning and practicing some more advanced orienteering skills?   This special training session has been organized to take advantage of a gap in the schedule of the ongoing Determinator Series, and is open to club members who have been active participants in the Determinator or WET series in the past.   Sorry, this session is not available for non-club or new members.

Time:  Wednesday 18 May from 6:30 to 8 pm (Please make sure to arrive by 6:30 as we will head off into the woods shortly thereafter)

Location:  at West Thetis (Bellamy Road Entrance)

This session will include instruction and practice opportunities in advanced orienteering skills such as:

  • route choice (advantages of trail versus cross-country)
  • recognizing off-trail terrain features (collecting / catching features) to keep track of location
  • using attack points for off-trail controls
  • compass bearings & pacing to find controls

This is a pretty relaxed session to help you get better at orienteering so that you can feel more comfortable taking on the advanced orienteering courses that involve a lot more off-trail controls in complex terrain.

To allow for individualized instruction, this session is limited to 8 participants only.
